INDIE ROCK
Indie Rock is a genre of Alternative Rock that originated in the U.S. and the UK in the 1980s and peaked in the 2000s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and it identified those acts that retained an outsider and underground perspective.
POST-PUNK REVIVAL
Post-Punk Revival is a genre of Alternative Rock and Indie Rock that developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, inspired by the original sounds and aesthetics of Garage Rock of the 60s and New Wave and Post-Punk of the 80s. Bands shared an emphasis on energetic live performance and rock authenticity.
NEO-PSYCHEDELIA
Neo-Psychedelia is a genre that saw a rise to prominence in the '90s and has developed to be characterized by its layering of sounds or instruments to create a surreal sonic atmosphere. After the early 2000s, synthesizers, samples, string sections, organs, bells and other production techniques have fallen more into favor.
INDIE FOLK
Following the rise of the independent music scene in the 1980s and 1990s, Indie Folk began to appear from various artists, combining the acoustic sounds of Contemporary Folk with the catchy melodies of Indie Rock. The genre began to reach new heights of popularity with the New Weird America movement in the early 2000s.
POST-HARDCORE
Following the emergence of Punk Rock in the late 1970s, bands began to expand upon its aesthetic of 'loud, hard, and fast' musical and vocal technique. Mixing together elements of their forebearers from Hardcore Punk and Noise Rock, Post-Hardcore has undergone a continual expansion and shifting in what constitutes its musical identity.
ALTERNATIVE METAL
Alternative Metal is a Rock music fusion genre that infuses Heavy Metal with influences from Alternative Rock and other genres not normally associated with Metal. It came into prominence in the 1990s and it is characterized by mid-paced guitar riffs, harsh vocals and unconventional sounds.
